Public Relations: Lay the foundation

The purpose of public relations, a term I am sure you must have heard of, is to manage a company’s reputation by building as well as maintaining positive relationships with the target audience. Well-established organisations, instead of doing the work in-house, often outsource the work to PR agencies. This allows them to establish an impactful brand image without getting diverted from their core business functions. However, before handing over the responsibility of your PR activities to a third party, there are a few things you could do to lay the foundation for a successful PR plan. Read ahead to know more:

1.Clearly defined target audience
Instead of putting in efforts on a campaign designed for all (which would require a huge budget), it’s wiser to design a campaign that will focus only on a specific group. When the right message reaches the right group, the results too would be concrete. You could expand your strategy to include in more people or target a different group over time, so that nobody gets left out. However, it’s important that you clearly define the target audience each time.

2.Represent your story
The PR professionals having public relations degree from aaft advertising can refine the way your story is represented, but the story has to be yours. The origin of the concept or idea of the business, the journey of the business, its victories etc. are things that should be original and factually correct.

3.Know your competition
It’s also important to be updated about your competitors, their methods of reaching out to the audiences, and the impact of those methods on their relationships with the public.
Building and expanding business takes time and efforts. However, it is also important to get your work noticed, which is why you should hand over the work to a reputed PR agency. My friend did a few public relations internships in PR agencies as well as organisations that did the work in-house. Not only did she get to learn more in the PR agencies, but she also felt that the PR strategies of the agencies were more effective. So, in case you plan on hiring a PR agency, make sure you hire a highly reputed one.
